Insouciant | 2024

Insouciant adjective
“showing a casual lack of concern.”

This project explores the burden of unpaid labor, disproportionately placed on the shoulders of women. It questions the distribution of labor within families, the way society perceives domestic work, and how we assign value to it.

This interactive installation invites the viewer to physically engage with the weight of labor. A heavy object must be lifted to trigger an audio piece, revealing the full narrative. The visual component consists of archival photographs, transformed into moving images using Runway, projected onto lace-adorned fabric.

Insouciant was exhibited at Kabul A GoGo, Utrecht, as part of the group show Don’t Mind The Mesh  (June 2024), where I also contributed as a project leader.
